The guidelines of the Paris Agreement was formed in 2015 with the goal of reducing the world's CO2 emissions and the practical work is now especially taken place in the large cities worldwide.  "Going from a strategic plan to taking action is a big step, but with this kind of a meeting it is possible to concretize what can be done" says Sebastian Mernild, Professor of Climate Change and Managing Director of Research Institute Nansencentret in Bergen.

Lord Mayor Frank Jensen is pleased that the summit will be held in Copenhagen in 2019, where more than 1 000 participants will meet to discuss their climate efforts. "This top meeting will put the climate effort in focus and inspire the whole world with the green solutions that Copenhagen has to offer" says Jensen, adding that Copenhagen is the ultimate city to host this meeting due to its biking culture, environmentally friendly district heating as well as the city's goal of becoming CO2 neutral before 2025.

Christian Ibsen, the CEO of the green think tank Concito implies that having the climate conference in Copenhagen shows that the city as well as Denmark in whole is a front runner when it comes to climate efforts. Ibsen also explains that cities have an immense effect on the environment and therefore it is important that the cities work together to lower their impact. "It is urgent and the cities play a central role in the transition."
