Hotel Hafnia

4 of 5 Stars

In the mid-twentieth century Christian Restorff started building a new hotel in Thorshavn. The hotel opened in 1951 and was named 'Hafnia'. The following decades the hotel expanded drastically, and as time went Hotel Hafnia became the biggest hotel in the Faroe Islands.

In 1988 the sons of Christian took over the company, following the footsteps of their father. Johan and Martin Christian were running the hotel with Johan as the director. The sons walked their fathers footsteps. Their biggest passion was to provide a good service to their guests. The hotel was renovated and developed so that it was now comparable to international standards.

Environmental efforts

Hotel Hafnia in Tórshavn is constantly raising the bar for its eco-friendly policies and striving to minimise its environmental footprint. In March 2022 the hotel achieved the Green Key certification – the hospitality industry’s international eco label. It is awarded to hospitality businesses that go the extra mile to protect the environment.

In addition to Green Key, they focus on supporting local initiatives like Rudda Føroyar, the Faroese instalment of World Cleanup Day. It brings together local volunteers to free Faroese nature from rubbish and litter.
